HISTORY
July 1936
A.J. Poulin purchases the former Mort Parker Store in Newport Center Village. Part of the site is now the Town Garage. The new warehouse is used to inventory Bull brand and Red Rose Feeds.
September 1940
A.J. Poulin purchases the Fowler Mill in North Troy, Vermont. From this mill, A.J. starts blending and mixing Poulin Feeds. The new mill is also used to store Blue Seal Feeds for sale to local farms.
October 1940
Fifteen year old Gaston Poulin begins working after school at the feed mill.
January 1954
A.J. Poulin decides to retire and turn ownership of Poulin grain over to Gaston Poulin. Gaston continues to manufacture Poulin Feeds and begin to distribute Beacon Feeds along with Blue Seal Feeds.
August 1961
Gaston leads Poulin Grain into the era of bulk feeds. The feed mill is completely rebuilt and updated to handle bulk and bagged feed, and a liquid blending system is installed to add molasses to feeds. The Poulin Feed line is expanded to meet new demands.
March 1965
Gaston expands to hardware and starts to offer a complete line of building supplies. Poulin Grain becomes Poulin Grain & Lumber, Inc.
January 1970
Steve Poulin joins Poulin Grain & Lumber and begins working to expand sales.
September 1974
The Purina Checkerboard Store located in Newport, Vermont is purchased. (This is now the present location of Poulin Grain.)
October 1974
The decision is made to close and tear down the feed mixing system in North Troy after 35 years of manufacturing grain at that site.
January 1975
Poulin Grain & Lumber become two separate companies. Steve and Peter from Poulin Lumber, Inc. purchase the building and lumber inventory in North Troy. Gaston and Jeff retain Poulin Grain, Inc. at its present location in Newport, Vermont. Decision is made to carry Blue Seal Feed exclusively.
1985
Peter Poulin purchases Steve's shares of Poulin Lumber and gains sole ownership of Poulin Lumber, Inc. Peter decides to purchase land and build a new retail lumber store on the Derby Road in Derby, Vermont. This will prove to be the largest location.
1994
Peter decides to purchase the old Greaves Building location in Hardwick, Vermont. This location will complete the circle of coverage in the state of Vermont.
1996
Cory Poulin, Peter's son, comes on board.
1998
Peter Poulin decides to sell part of his business to Cory. Cory is the 4th generation Poulin to maintain the company's strong industry presence.
2002
Cory's brother, Christopher, becomes a partner.
2005
Christopher decides to pursue other interests and Cory purchases all remaining stock, becoming the sole owner of Poulin Lumber, Inc.
2007
Poulin Lumber opens a sales office and showroom in Enosburg Falls, Vermont.
July 2010
Cory acquires the former Lacillade Lumber facility in Williamstown, Vermont. After extensive renovations, Poulin Lumber opens their fourth location on July 16th, bringing a full-service lumberyard, retail store and design showroom to the central Vermont market.
2011
Poulin Lumber expands their Enosburg Falls location to 335 Main Street, tripling their showroom space and hire a skilled sales staff with decades of experience.
2013
The Hardwick location gets a facelift.
October 2015
Cory sells Poulin Lumber, Inc. to Wallboard Supply under US-LBM, LLC. Poulin Lumber becomes Poulin Lumber- US LBM, LLC. Cory remains as President, and the staff all remain in place. The company operates on a more competitive level under this new direction.
June 2016
Poulin Lumber relocates the Enosburg Falls Showroom/Sales Office location to the newly expanded location in Williston, VT. The new location will be WSC Building Materials, specializing in Exterior Products for residential and commercial projects.
